LCD OR PLASMA? What's Your Pick?
  AddThis Feed Button

Want a flat screen for the entertainment space at your home? The most probable options that are bound to come your way in today's times are either the LCD or the plasma, in case you are thinking of spending a little bit extra for that extra punch in viewing experience (flat screens are out anyways, so these two are definitely your best and ONLY options) Both of them have their own pros and cons and it's up to you to decide which one you intend to take. These two may look very similar in their appearance but are wide apart int terms of their functionality.

Basic Technical Difference
In LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens, liquid crystals are pushed in between the two thin glass plates. Images are created by transforming the electrical charge applied to the crystals.
Plasma screens use a matrix of microscopic gas plasma cells that are charged by definite electrical voltages to create a picture.

Difference Between the Picture Quality
Anything that happens behind the screen is not important but how the two screens function as televisions is what is important. Undoubtedly, both the LCD and Plasma produce an excellent quality of picture, but, if you are looking out for a true home theatre-like feeling, then Plasma screens enjoy an upper edge over the traditional LCDs as the contrasts can be enjoyed best with the former due to the ability to deliver deeper blacks effectively. However, with the coming generation of LCDs, even this difference would get eliminated.

Advantages : Plasma over LCD
1.Better Viewing Angles – Viewing Angle is the distance from the screen either from the sides or the middle without distorting the image on the screen. You will notice a slight shift in the colour or brightness of the image if you are at quite some distance on an LCD screen.
2.Clarity With Fast Sequence Of Images – It used to be the case with the former generation of LCDs that with a fast pace image sequence the image used to get slightly blurred, but the same has never been the case with a Plasma TV.

Advantages : LCD over Plasma
1.Price – LCDs are much more affordable in comparison with the Plasma screens of the same size.
2.Native Resolution – Native Resolution means pixels on the screen, this is better enjoyed with the LCD screen.
3.Longer Life – LCDs are much more durable than Plasma screens. LCDs enjoy a life span of 60000 hours, while Plasma screens have only begun delivering 30000 – 60000 viewing hours, and that is where the price factor again comes into play.
4.Burn In Images – Plasma Screens, even the new generations, suffer this major problem of burn in image, that is, if the image stays on the screen for too long, then a dark shadow imprint of the same sticks around the screen. However, this is not the case with the LCDs.

So now you know it for yourself where to place your bet.
