India is a huge country of different traditions, culture, and religion. At every few kilometers you will find a change in language and dressing style. You will find women wearing sarees in southern India, salwar-kameez in Punjab, ghaghra choli in Rajhasthan and so on. So we can see India is very rich in terms of its dressing style. The ancient caves of ajanta, ellora and the remains of ancient civilisations clearly depict that fashion is an integral part of our civilisation.

After the independence, every industry witnessed the effects of globalisation. Due to this, changes occurred in the dressing style of Indians also. Globalisation led to the fusion of Indian and western dresses. Wearing kurtis on jeans, spaghetti with sarees are the examples showing the effect of western culture on Indian. It is not that we are only adapting their fashion styles. Westerners are also very keen in adapting our culture. Many leading ladies of Hollywood are seen wearing sarees, putting bindis on their forehead. Infact, several esteemed Indian designers are designing the costumes of western celebrities. Indian designers are also participating in western fashion shows. In recent times, we saw a spurt of our designers in Paris fashion weak, Milan fashion weak ans so on. The work of our designers is highly appreciated there. Western brands are also coming to participate in Indian fashion weeks, as they see a lot of potential in our market. This industry is also generating a lot of business. This booming industry is also generating a lot of jobs for people. More and more fashion training institutes and fashion corporations are cropping up. Many national and international brands are establishing themselves in Indian market. The mall culture has immensely helped in the growth of our fashion industry. Thus, globalisation has completely changed the face of our Indian fashion industry.
